The elephant, which Charles and Ray Eames originally created from plywood in 1945, is available in a plastic version - as a toy or decorative object in a variety of colors, and not just for children's rooms.
Material: solution-dyed polypropylene, matte finish. In the early 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames spent several years developing and perfecting a technique for molding plywood into three-dimensional shapes, creating a series of furniture and sculptures. Of these initial designs, the two-piece elephant proved to be the most technically challenging due to its tight, complex curves, and the example never entered series production. One prototype, which was given to Charles' 14-year-old daughter, Lucia Eames, was loaned to the Museum of Modern Art in New York for a 1946 exhibition. It is still owned by the Eames family to this day.
Following its limited edition release in 2007, Vitra has now added a plywood version of the legendary Eames Elephant to its standard portfolio. The sculptural decorative figure with high-quality American cherry face veneer has been available since 2017.
A few years ago, the Eames Elephant was also introduced to the market in a plastic version, making it available to the target group for which it was originally intended: kids. A smaller version - with an identical appearance but on a reduced scale - is also available in a plastic version in a variety of colors.
Whether chosen as an elegant wooden object for the living room, as a solid plastic toy for a children's bedroom , whether for outdoor use or as a small decorative animal figurine - a friendly animal with proudly protruding ears will bring joy to both children and parents.
