INSPIRED BY SCABETTI
Inspired by Scabetti
British quality
Contrary to the sounding Italian name, Scabetti is actually a British art and design studio, following the work of Dominic and Frances Bromley. Located in rural Staffordshire Moorlands in England, they work closely with pottery producers in nearby Stoke-on-Trent Pottery to produce the beautiful bone china used in most of their work. Over the years, they have become known for using multiples of the same form to create very unique sculptural installations. Regardless of the scale, their approach is to create beautifully thoughtful, sometimes quirky but always desired items, made with pride and quality as locally as possible.
The story of Scabetti
Scabetti came to light in the last year of the 20th century. After training in industrial design and setting his teeth in the fast-paced world of consulting companies, Dominic Bromley wanted to create sculptures on a small scale. He masqueraded his creations as functional objects such as vases and dishes. Influenced by mid-century art and design, these objects grew into wings (or flippers!) And became the illuminated cell phones and lighting you see today.
Together more creative
The shift from tableware to lighting and sculpting on a larger scale coincided with the addition of Frances Bromley, wife of Dominic, to Scabetti. She also trained in industrial design, her naturally inquisitive mind and passion for problem solving made her the perfect creative partner. Together, they designed, developed and refined the Shoal, a sculptural setting that became their hallmark and gave rise to many variants in terms of size, scale and choice of materials.
Today?
Today, Dominic and Frances collaborate with a focused team in their specially designed graphic and design studio in Leek. Together, they continue to work with clients, creating items from their current collection, working to order and developing new works.
