Product description

The compact LKR chair, equipped with a seat made of welded steel wire, is a variation of the LSR models with a shell made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic or polypropylene. Charles and Ray Eames used both the wire and fiberglass versions to furnish their own residence, the legendary Eames House in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. Like all other models in the Vitra family of Wire chairs, the LSR is available without upholstery, with a seat cushion or with a two-piece seat and back cushion – also known as the "Bikini" cushion due to its shape. In a powder-coated variant without upholstery, the LSR is also suitable for outdoor use.
The LKR Wire Chair is available in four new colors based on the palette designed by Charles and Ray Eames. Vitra has developed fresh color combinations: lemon, sky blue, dark green and Eames Seafoam Green. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames from welded steel wire, the Wire chair is a variation on the one-piece seat with an organic shape, combining transparent lightness with technological sophistication. The seat shell can be combined with various bases. The Wire chair is available without upholstery, with a seat cushion or with a two-piece cushion for the seat and backrest, called the "Bikini" cushion due to its shape.
Wire chairs are powder-coated; some models are also available in chrome. The DKR and DKX models with a powder-coated finish are ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
In 2016, Vitra added approximately 20mm to the base height of the wire chairs, adjusting the seat geometry accordingly.
These changes, which are almost unnoticeable aesthetically, enhance the comfort of this classic chair design, especially when paired with contemporary tables.
The Wire chairs by Charles and Ray Eames owe their transparent appearance to a spot-welded steel wire shell, while the DKW wooden base ( The K-Wire Wood Base Dining Chair adds a contrasting note of warmth to the otherwise technical look of the design. The metal elements of the DKW chair are powder-coated in black; wooden base legs are available in various shades of maple.
Upholstery: unupholstered, with a seat cushion or with a seat and backrest cushion. The seat and back cushions can be removed and reinstalled; available in Hopsak fabric or leather.
