East meets West in Jaime Hayon's playful modification of a traditional Asian lantern with a contemporary expression. Paper lanterns dating back centuries have been present in Asia among the privileged and the poor, where different colors, shapes and sizes have different meanings. In this case, Hayon abandoned cultural formalities and created a series of lamps entirely in white. Handmade from rice paper combining various sizes and shapes with black stained oak accents.
