The pendant lamp has 12 LEDs embedded in the inner vertices of the geometric frame, which are connected to optical fibers along the inner edges, creating even illumination towards the reflector in the center of the lamp. This layered white reflector emits light spherically back into the room, creating uniform, glare-free light.
History:
In collaboration with Louis Poulsen, world-renowned Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson has created a new large pendant. With the complex shapes of OE Quasi Light, Eliasson combines his long-standing interest in geometry and light, reinforcing his and Louis Poulsen's shared belief that the quality of lighting is essential to our lives.
The pendant is composed of two contrasting but related shapes geometric. The outer layer is a rigid aluminum frame in the shape of an icosahedron with 20 triangular faces. Seemingly floating in the frame, the internal form is a white polycarbonate reflector in the geometry of a dodecahedron with 12 pentagonal faces. LEDs are embedded in the inner vertices of the aluminum frame, connected to optical fibers along the inner edges. The light is directed towards the reflector in the center, creating spherical illumination back to the surroundings.
OE Quasi Light was created with sustainability in mind, a core value of Eliasson's work. The aluminum used is 90% recycled, while the remaining materials are fully recyclable.
With longevity in mind, the product design allows parts to be replaced and recycled.
OE Quasi's complex geometric shape is perceived differently depending on where the observer stands, allowing for endless interpretations and perspectives. Thanks to its supernatural shape, OE Quasi Light will brighten and visually fit into any space, creating smooth and glare-free light.
