The history of VitrA

It all started with a small workshop in the Kartal district of Istanbul. It was 1942 and a team of eight people worked tirelessly to supply the country with a variety of ceramics that could not be imported to Turkey during World War II.

Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı, as she was called then, was the forerunner of Vitra. After the war, the economic boom was accompanied by a construction boom that increased the demand for sanitary ware, and the Kartal factory moved forward. In 1958, the company opened its first modern sanitary ceramics production plant following a sharp increase in demand for this material due to the decline in marble popularity. By 1966, VitrA was adopted as a brand name, short for Vitrify (to create something like the hardness and gloss of glass) or vitrified products - ceramic products.

To diversify the company, a production plant was opened in 1979 faucets - a strategic step towards offering complementary bathroom products alongside sanitary ware . At that time, VitrA was the undisputed leader on the Turkish market and introduced the brand internationally in 1983. Fifty percent of the brand's production is sold overseas through an extensive distribution network that includes more than 150 showrooms and 2,000 points of sale in major cities in more than 75 countries on five continents.

A lot has changed since its inception in 1942 , but VitrA draws on its proud heritage of creating modern bathrooms and tiles with a timeless look and affordable luxury.
