Product description

Marcel Breuer always had a structural and architectural way of thinking. The S40 glass showcase resembles a miniature New York skyscraper: the elements arranged in one another are clearly visible, and the structure is surprising. It looks like Breuer just put the base under the skinny struts. As a result, it has two completely different faces. The sides protrude outwards and inwards, creating a cantilever shape. Without creating a monolith, Breuer designed a dynamic sculpture reminiscent of large forklifts receiving and transporting containers at the port.
The veneered and varnished ash struts are also visibly connected to other elements. The screws are not hidden, but highlighted by the contrast between the stainless steel and the dark surface. This principle brings to mind his tubular steel designs, in which the connecting screws were always visible. The Bauhaus Archive in Berlin only approves faithfully reproduced and licensed reissues of original Bauhaus models. They are marked with the signet ring of Oskar Schlemmer, which he designed for the State Bauhaus in Weimar in 1922. Even today, Bauhaus Tecta models are based exactly on the proportions of the originals.
