Lamps from the Armilla collection are available in a diameter of 36 cm and come in the form of table lamps. The diffuser is made of glossy white glass blown on a circular mold, with metal rings inserted and carefully secured in place with molten glass at the end of the process. The rings have a polished finish, plated with gold and chrome. Designed to work with halogen, fluorescent and LED bulbs (when connected to the mains).
Armilla, designed by Lorenzo Truant, is inspired by the first Renaissance representations of the movement of stars and planets. In those days, people had a habit of constructing wonderful models called armillary spheres, consisting of rings. Initially, they focused on the Earth, but as time passed and Copernicus' theories came in, they were replaced by the Sun, the infinite source of light and the new center of the universe. The Armilla rings echo this custom, supporting the sphere and complementing the richness of the opal glass that diffuses light from a source at the center of the composition - much like the armillary spheres invented by Copernican cosmographers, with their heliocentric view of the world. Taking a closer look at the Armilla, the three rings of precious metal are cleverly connected to each other and contain a diffuser which - thanks to the ring attached to the equator - is attached to the support cable, which is also made of metal.
