DUCA is a project designed by Nicola Gallizia especially for the new ME Milan Il Duca, a prestigious address in terms of luxury hotels in Milan.
A lamp created for the contract sector that now takes its rightful place in the company's catalog, DUCA was created thanks to the Bespoke tailoring service Oluce company, offering tailor-made solutions for large and small deliveries: lamps designed specifically for specific projects or in modular variants on existing projects, as well as the production of products from the catalog.
Initially, Gallizia planned a table version to decorate the sleeping area in apartments, then a wall-mounted adaptation was also developed to illuminate floor corridors.
The initial idea for DUCA was a light source able to continue where the concept of the classic bedside lamp was left off, reinventing its shape, combining it with a very soft, indirect light whose source is almost impossible to see, but which illuminates the table and the area next to the table thoroughly and effectively. Fascinated by theater lighting, which distances the source from the eye and allows itself to be detected only in the beam at the front of the stage, Nicola Gallizia works on structural subtraction to focus on the light effect, entrusting it with the task of revealing itself.
A relativism that becomes connotative feature of the DUCA wall version: the perception of the wall lamp changes radically in space depending on the place where the observer is located. As during a lunar eclipse, the light source appears, disappears and reappears: engaging the eye in an unexpected and dynamic play.
