Lodes begins its first collaboration with Ron Arad, an internationally renowned artist, architect and designer, known for his iconic industrial works that have won numerous awards and have been exhibited in the most prestigious institutions in the world. The result is Cono di Luce - a lamp that combines Lodes' technical knowledge with Arad's artistic flair.
Cono di Luce is a lamp characterized by a transparent Pyrex cone that houses a printed circuit board (PCB) inside and a frame, also made of PCB , but with greater thickness to provide structural support for the lamp.
The circuit board is the result of a process involving 33 steps and several layers consisting of fiberglass and copper in the electrical circuitry of LED chips, which inherently have both translucent and and opaque. The sheet of fiberglass, which is extremely thin, flexible and insulating, overlaid with a copper track, acts as an electrically polarized conductor that, when it reaches the LEDs, allows them to emit light.
Lodes' intuition was to understand the possibilities of exploiting the decorative potential the degree of transparency of the material to obtain a design characterized by stripes based on the artist's drawing. This allowed Arad to play with areas of dark and light bands and the moiré effect created by overlapping stripes. Lodes managed to apply this aesthetic to the design of an electrical circuit connecting over 200 LED chips.
The frame, also designed by Lodes, consists of a white rigid PCB that performs three functions: it refracts light so that the lighting effect of the lamp can be unitary, connecting the electrical circuits that power the LEDs and ultimately acting as a mechanical suspension for the product itself.
Another distinctive element of Cono di Luce is the customizable frame that holds the sheet placed inside the cone and on which the product name is displayed. The names of Arad and Lodes are listed on the frame. Cono di luce is available in a pendant version and in three finishes: red, gray and gold, the lamp is versatile for different users and environments, in the typical Lodes style.
Arad prioritized the red version to provide a striking element, with Arad's signature on the outer flap. The gray version is more subtle, with the product signature and name placed discreetly on the inside of the sheet, allowing the product to be adapted to a variety of settings.
Following the CMF Lodes model, a third version will also be available, which is characterized by a gray finish on the inside and a gold finish on the outside, achieved by depositing gold to give the product its preciousness.
The result is a powerful lamp with a seemingly simple structure. Once turned on, the product reveals its full decorative capabilities - an optical object composed of light, shadows and overlaps, the work of Arad's creative vision and Lodes' ability to master and manage the technology.
