Product description

The Blevio Ignazio Gardelli table joins the Heritage Collection by Molteni&C, inaugurating the collaboration with the Gardella Historical Archive: the first stage of a relationship based on research and exchange that is expected to develop in the coming years. In 2015, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan, rebuilt by Gardella himself, hosted an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Molteni&C in the furniture industry.
Designed in 1930, Blevio is a table that Gardella (1905-1999) made as a single model for your own family home, Villa Usuelli in Blevio on Lake Como. It is an extremely harmonious and timeless piece of furniture that today becomes a collective heritage; combines the purest functions and inner simplicity. Gardella was already a recognized figure on the Italian architectural scene.
The elegant and geometrically linear Blevio table is rich in design, in details that reveal themselves to the attentive eye. It is the result of a process in which what was unnecessary was removed, a perfect synthesis of form and function, and a careful and selective use of material, which was to become its main aesthetic feature. It is a design that focuses on essence and the removal of decoration for decoration's sake.
The top of the vertical supports is connected to the table top by two capital-shaped wooden elements. The refined and unusual play of counter-curvatures is also an element that stabilizes the structure: the geometric center of the semicircular ends of the tabletop coincides with the center of the vertical supports. The use of curved forms responds to the need to emphasize the continuity of the countertop, avoiding gaps. The original element is covered with copper, a material that is difficult to use on modern dinner tables. The Molteni&C R&D center replaced the copper layer on the wooden countertop with a special metal powder coating that provides the same effect of solidity and artisanal shine, ensuring greater resistance.
As an alternative to a varnished wooden countertop measuring 320x96 cm (dimensions), a marble slab was tested Breccia Capraia; it was introduced into the aluminum surface, obtaining a total thickness of 4 cm. In addition, under the supervision of the Gardell Historical Archives, the proportions of the original design were scaled to match the heights of contemporary dinner tables (height 77 cm), thus ensuring respect for the original shape. Molteni&C is re-examining its own history with an eye to the future. The 80!Molteni exhibition, the creation of the company's historical archive and the recently inaugurated Molteni Museum have created an opportunity for a rebirth from the beginnings of modernity.
Intriguing traces have emerged from the past that turn out to be contemporary, ripe for rethinking today. Unique works that can come straight from museum display cases and find their way into our modern homes.
