Product description

Our armless dining chair is a contemporary re-edition of a mid-century armless chair, originally made for the student hostel rooms of the University of Punjab, Chandigarh. The chair has flared, triangular "V" legs with two flat crossbars supporting the legs. The grooves in the back of the chair for knots made of cane are cut in a way that partially hides the knots. The natural rattan cane is peeled and meticulously woven by hand.
Finishes:
We offer this product in natural teak, dark stain or black finish. For the Natural Teak finish, the wood is sanded smooth and a soft cloth is applied with a clear polishing compound and sealer to bring out the natural golden brown color of the teak. With Dark Stain, a layer of teak stain is hand-applied to give the wood a darker, deeper shade. With the Black Finish finish, the wood is sprayed with an eco-friendly water-based paint that leaves the grain and patterns visible.
For this product, we offer a choice of two types of cane weaving patterns - diamond weave and cross weave. Diamond weave is stronger and slightly more durable than cross weave. We recommend diamond weave, especially if heavy use is expected. We also recommend using a seat pad to increase durability and prevent the cane strands from accidentally breaking. If used carefully and well, reed weaves can last for several years without any damage. The Chandigarh project is our tribute to Indian modernism, the style and philosophy of creation that manifested itself in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our reissues of mid-century designs employ the same craftsmanship and manufacturing philosophy that has been practiced for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs unique - wedge joints, curves, grooves - have been preserved, while improving the structural and material elements. The natural rattan cane used to make the seats and backrests is peeled and woven by hand by highly skilled weavers, similar to vintage pieces.
