Product description

The counter stool or round stool has a solid teak seat with two metal rings - one at the foot of the stool and a smaller ring supporting the seat. The seat is slightly hollowed out to ensure comfortable sitting. The metal rings are made from bright flat steel bars and were manufactured using a hot metal rolling process that was widely used in the early to mid-20th century. In this method, the steel flat bar is shaped into a circle; and the weld is made where the two ends meet. This is due to the visible but discreet inch-wide weld regrind mark on the rings. The original patina of the raw material (in the form of flat bars) is retained to give the rings a weathered appearance. The screws used to attach metal to wood are also the same type as they were a few decades ago, although we have upgraded the quality from mild steel to stainless steel.
Finishes:
We offer this product in a natural teak or dark stain finish. In the case of Natural Teak, we do not stain the wood; the wood is sanded smooth and then a clear wood polish and sealer are applied to bring out the natural golden brown color of the teak. With Dark Stain, a layer of teak stain is applied to give the wood a darker shade. Please note that each batch of teak is unique and the actual shade may vary slightly from the reference images. The Chandigarh project is our tribute to Indian modernism, style and manufacturing philosophy that manifested itself in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our reissues of mid-century designs employ the same craftsmanship and manufacturing philosophy that has been practiced for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs unique - wedge joints, curves, grooves - have been preserved, while improving the structural and material elements. The natural rattan cane used to make the seats and backrests is peeled and woven by hand by highly skilled weavers, similar to vintage pieces.
