Product description

The Cross Easy Chair or Easy Armchair X Leg is a re-edition of an armchair model designed for use in the reception halls of Chandigarh's public buildings in the 1950s. The chair has symmetrical X (cross) units that create a uniform leg and armrest. The armrests and seat are inclined upwards and parallel to each other, which gives the chair a distinctive look. The backrest is curved, tilted at a comfortable angle and thicker than the backrest of the Easy Armchair on the V leg.
Finishes:
We offer this product in a Natural Teak or Dark Stain finish. In the case of Natural Teak, we do not stain the wood; the wood is sanded smooth and then a clear wood polish and sealer are applied to bring out the natural golden brown color of the teak. With Dark Stain, a layer of teak stain is applied to give the wood a darker shade. The process for both of these finishes is traditional and time-consuming, similar to French polishing, but without the shine usually associated with French polishing. Please note that each batch of teak is unique and the actual shade may vary slightly from the reference images.
For this product, we offer two types of reed weaving patterns to choose from - diamond weave and cross weave. Diamond weave is stronger and slightly more durable than cross weave. We recommend diamond weave, especially if heavy use is expected. We also recommend using a seat pad to increase durability and prevent the cane strands from accidentally breaking. If used carefully and well, reed weaves can last for several years without any damage. The Chandigarh project is our tribute to Indian modernism, the style and philosophy of creation that manifested itself in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our reissues of mid-century designs employ the same craftsmanship and manufacturing philosophy that has been practiced for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs unique - wedge joints, curves, grooves - have been preserved, while improving the structural and material elements. The natural rattan cane used to make the seats and backrests is peeled and woven by hand by highly skilled weavers, similar to vintage pieces.
