Trame's pure geometric decorations are inspired by the Japanese "Kumiko", an ancient technique of working and joining thin pieces of wood without nails. The Kumiko woodworking technique developed in Japan during the time of Asuka (600-700 AD) and has since been refined and passed down through generations of craftsmen.
Designs because kumiko elements are not chosen randomly: many of the nearly 200 models in use today exist from the Edo period (1603-1868). Each pattern has a meaning or imitates a pattern found in nature, which is supposed to be a good omen.
Also in the case of Trame, the decorations have been reinterpreted to bring them back to new, contemporary languages.
