Product description

The X + L 05 modular sofa is upholstered in a cotton and linen blend called Andaman, manufactured by Zanav Home. Andaman fabric is produced by hand and the final weave is made on traditional power looms. The fabric is dyed using a vat dyeing process in which yarn is manually fed into and out of a vat containing dissolved dyes, causing continuous reduction and oxidation deep into the fiber until the desired color is achieved. The yarn accepts the dye differently, resulting in the subtle color inconsistency that is a hallmark of the vat dyeing process. The fabric used in the image above is Andaman asphalt. The legs and backrests of the sofas are made of Burma teak.
The x+l modular sofa set consists of individual upholstered units that are available without arms, with one arm (left or right) or with both arms. The individual elements can be combined in various combinations to create a one-seater, two-seater or three-seater sofa (shown in the illustration at the bottom of this page). Each device has a seat cushion and a pair of backrest cushions. The sofas are designed to be wide and spacious, and provide plenty of space for comfortable relaxation. The x + l collection includes objects designed by the Dutch designer duo Xander Vervoort and Leon van Boxtel. The objects in this collection are inspired by x+l's interest in art and architecture, as well as their deep appreciation for simple, honest materials and structures. If the legs of the coffee table are an homage to Le Corbusier, the idea for the upholstered modular sofa evolved from an interaction with textile manufacturer Ravi Khemka of Zanav Home. Recycling and zero waste are the main concepts in the design of some objects from this collection.
