Nairobi is a garden table with a frame made of sandblasted, solid, natural Iroko material with an oiled finish. Thanks to Nairobi, Baxter opens a completely new perspective of connecting the space between home and surroundings. Objects designed as intermediaries between one dimension and another allow us to enjoy the garden as a new experience, similar to the idea of escapism and personal representation of our times.
The sculptural and dynamic tables and coffee tables in this collection designed by Roberto Lazzeroni refer to the primitivism of art African and draw from its ancestors, transforming it into an organic sign that, by contrast, recalls the linear purity of oriental Zen thought. “This is a collection that does not need to be stored indoors in autumn and winter. As the seasons pass, each element blends into its surroundings until it becomes a familiar presence.”
With its warm caramel color, sandblasted iroko secured with an oil finish evokes exotic, relaxing visions. This is the face of spring approaching summer, the idea of an increasingly dense and surrounding light that soothes the spirit. We see this in the different, changing grains of the wood, making each piece unique.
In the low silhouette version for smoking and the higher silhouette version for dining, the two compact, secure legs supporting the majestic table find a sinuosity with an informal character : an invitation not to choose which side to sit on, the approach to adventure becomes outdoor-friendly.
Crossing the threshold into the dining room or study, the same features are, however, interpreted in the version with sandblasted solid ash that has been stained in black, it takes on a more solid character. It is the versatility with which Nairobi manages to give content to the idea of the world that we have built by traveling and living, a synthesis of the most free experiences and those regulated by the principles of coexistence; indicates a more relaxed way of greeting, a conversation without labels.
While decorating an outdoor space becomes a way to build a bridge to the imagination, with the same elements at home, Baxter is rewriting the page in the rulebook of the modern living world.
