DOI was created as a hanging lamp system. The typology assumes that one or more parts are suspended from the ceiling by a cable so that they can move and float freely in space until their weight becomes stable enough to determine their position. The lamp appears stable, but is always in a state of tension.
DOI consists of two parts: a disc (attached to the ceiling with a steel cable) and a reflector (made of extruded aluminum, powered by a slender electric cable).
Two basic forms - circle and line - that always find balance , perfect, but inevitably transient. Their way of interaction determines the image, position and function. This relationship is the driving force of the design and can be achieved in two different ways, relying on two different physical forces: magnetism and gravity.
A small magnet placed inside the stamped piece attaches it to the iron disc, allowing it to move around the circumference while remaining tangential to it. A simple, natural gesture allows the user to adjust the direction of the light.
The macula and disc become one body, which establishes itself in stable equilibrium by changing the point of contact, moving around a common center of gravity.
The disk acts as a counterweight. With a weight of 900 grams, it attracts the spotlight by grabbing it by the cable. A plate-separated and adjustable pendulum mounting point on the ceiling allows the light source to be moved from the power cord connection point, increasing the flexibility of the system.
The reflector and disc are available in three colors: white, matte black and brushed brass. In the case of the reflector, the white version has a knurling effect that enlivens the surface. The attractiveness of the system is also based on the possibility of combining stain and disk in the preferred shades, tone-sur-tone or contrasting ones.
