Record Home - History

The history of Recor begins in 1949 in Hasselt, Belgium, when René Corthouts then 24-year-old, opened a mattress manufacturing plant. A record was born. The first mattresses were sewn by Ren é himself . He wanted to get to know and feel the end product inside and out so that he could guarantee its quality. " René Corthouts was very dedicated to the company and its employees. He knew every employee, his family and background. It was his favorite opening phrase when he met a new employee.

In the late 1960s, René takes his business to the next level: creating a range of home furniture that will expand significantly in the next few years.

In 1983 the family business expanded and Philippe and Christian - the sons of René Corthouts - entered Record history.

Many people from Hasselt and the surrounding area work for Recor. In order to remain competitive, significant investments are made in production facilities at the beginning of the 21st century. It also means that Recor can still produce furniture in its hometown of Hasselt. In addition to focusing on innovation, Recor also strives to produce its products sustainably, for example through better recycling of waste.

In 2007, René Corthouts was the driving force behind the modernization of our production. He often said, "If we do it, we'll do it right." To ensure the continuity of the family business, Charles and Adrien Corthouts - René's grandsons - decide to join the company in 2016.
