Product description

The Bonsai seating collection is inspired by reflections on Japanese aesthetics and culture. The armchairs are characterized by soft, curved shapes. These inviting, friendly shapes are reminiscent of bushes and shrubs found in gardens throughout Japan that have been cultivated and pruned to produce beautiful, soft, "organic" cloud-like shapes. A striking contrast is provided by rectilinear wooden platforms supported by low wooden legs that lift these rounded, upholstered forms above the floor. Almost like tokonoma, the practice of placing selected, prized objects, such as a bonsai tree, on a horizontal surface to create an interior element, platforms create a kind of smaller, more dedicated frame within a larger context. Within this "frame" are other elements such as an optional integrated lamp with a flowing fabric shade and a recessed stone or mirror plate, for arranging potted plants on books or simply on a stack of books. The seats, upholstered with molded polyurethane foam, are also available with platforms made of wood, painted in wengé, oak or chocolate, or supported by straight black metal legs.
