Product description

The subtle and refined Kyoto table by architect and designer Gianfranco Frattini is the perfect combination of design vision and masterful craftsmanship. In the early 1970s, during a trip to Japan to learn about the work of local craftsmen, Gianfranco Frattini visited craft workshops in Kyoto together with the experienced carpenter Pierluigi Ghianda, who became his friend and collaborator. Inspired by the processing technique and aesthetics of these places, the designer came up with the idea of a connector that would become the basis for the table of the same name, the production of which began in 1974. Kyoto immediately became synonymous with the concept of understatement which, in the best Italian design tradition, combines a brilliant idea with impeccable execution. In the Kyoto table, the concept of structure becomes the object itself. The lack of decorative elements emphasizes the beauty of the raw material - Canaletto walnut inserts perform a precise strengthening function - requiring great technical skills and care, as well as in-depth knowledge of the material. Re-unveiled by Poltrona Frau with full respect for the original design, the Kyoto table reflects the skills and knowledge of a new wave of craftsmen, heirs to the rich Italian tradition of wood craftsmanship and stands alongside Albero and Turner as an example of high-class craftsmanship.
The Kyoto table is part of the Museum's permanent collection Design at the Milan Triennale.
The Kyoto table is available in a square version, 102 cm and 32 cm high, or in a 102x49 cm version, also 32 cm high. The surface and legs are made of very light, solid beech wood with solid Canaletto walnut inserts at the ends of the boards that make up the top. Wooden boards are connected with joints at an angle of 45°, creating a square pattern. Sliding counterweight legs that can be freely positioned.
All surfaces are coated with a protective clear varnish.
The Poltrona Frau logo and designer's signature are laser engraved on one of the surfaces of the leg supports.
