Tavolo con Ruote is a coffee table with a top made of cut float glass. Industrial wheels with painted metal supports.
An industrial trolley used in the FontanaArte factory to transport glass: it was this object that inspired Gae Aulenti to design her Tavolo con Ruote. This is an example of intuitive design that skips the drawing board stage and goes from an idea for an everyday item to the prototype stage. This rolling table replaces the wooden shelf of a factory cart with a thick sheet of beveled glass - a tribute to the company's manufacturing history - and fits onto free-rolling industrial wheels. By replacing one simple part, the nature of the item and its purpose change.
