MEANDER design Hannes Åström is a modular wooden seating system with an organic shape. The modules can be connected to each other to create a variety of shapes, thanks to which Meander will be able to adapt to the specific conditions in a given space. After completing his bachelor's studies at Malmstens Linköping University in spring 2020, Hannes Åström was commissioned by Karl Andersson & Söner to design a wooden seating system whose modular design was flexible enough to be used in rooms of any shape and size. Hannes sought to give his design a serene character with gently curved horizontal lines reminiscent of a meandering river that flows peacefully through the landscape. Hence the name.
MEANDER consists of a straight sofa and bench, with or without armrest, in three different lengths, complemented by curved modules with angles of 45° and 90°. The back of the sofa follows the curved lines of the sofa's interior or exterior. All end sections are prepared so that they can be anchored into the ground. Sections of sofas and benches can be connected and assembled using electrical sockets. Choose from oak, ash, standard stains on ash, or white glaze on oak or ash. Meander is delivered fully assembled.
Any damage to the seat or backrest can be simply repaired by unscrewing the item with a hand tool and replacing it or sanding the damaged area. MEANDER modules can be combined in countless configurations. Meander was designed primarily for indoor public spaces such as offices, schools, shopping malls, stations, toilets and other indoor spaces with high traffic.
