Product description

For her interpretation of a Bauhaus-style piece of furniture, Kerstin Bruchhäuser deliberately chose the unupholstered D4 chair by Marcel Breuer. Designed as a versatile solution "for ships, sports fields, terraces, cottages, gardens, garden cafes", the steel tubular folding club chair with striped fabric upholstery was presented in 1927. Long an icon, the mobile Breuer D4 has been part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1980.
For her version of the D4N, Kerstin Bruchhäuser chose to leave the tubular steel frame of the D4 in its current state to concentrate on the design of the textile surfaces of the strap - seat, backrest and armrests.
Over three months, she created a patchwork by hand, using the traditional Korean pojagi technique. In this technique, pieces of fabric with a characteristic trim are sewn together, making the front and back look almost identical. The result: aesthetically beautiful fabric on both sides.
In her interpretation, Kerstin Bruchhäuser points D4 to a new future: the combination of different fabrics in the Korean sewing technique not only alludes to the global world, but there is also a promise of sustainability. An icon that combines history and the spirit of the times in a new way.
