Product description
D4 is a testimony to time, magic and a piece of furniture with which British designer and artist Esther Wilson grew up. A chair that evokes memories of her grandparents, architects Alison and Peter Smithson, who owned the furniture and worked closely with Tecta. That's why designer Esther Wilson, an embroiderer by profession, created a poetic work of thought that pays homage to Breuer's chair and Bauhaus. The basis of her work was the Bauhaus Manifesto in its original layout.
Wilson marked individual words and handwritten notes with a pencil on a copy in a color that seemed important to her. She transferred the resulting color blocks as embroidery onto D4 textile surfaces according to their positions in the manifest. The result was intense, minimal embroidery. Works of art in a unique rhythm of arrangement and repetition of colors. The sizes and proportions of the color blocks vary depending on the chair version - Wilson has scaled the pattern to exactly fit each case.
