Product description

MAgriTTA is a sculpture-armchair paying homage to surrealism. A green apple and a black bowler hat, figurative elements recurring in the work of René Magritte, were combined by the visionary imagination of Sebastián Matta into a new seat, made of polyurethane foam and upholstered with bouclé wool. In addition to the classic version with green upholstery, Gufram also colored MAgriTTA in yellow and red, adding MAgriTTA Rouge and MAgriTTA Jaune to the catalog.
Fun with an unexpected association - an apple in a hat? – and with dimensional separation – an apple as big as a hat or a hat as small as an apple? – Matta is able to translate the deception, joke and illusion of Magritte's works into a design object.
The ABS cap serves as a structure, and the apple made of soft polyurethane foam and upholstered with flexible fabric becomes a comfortable and soft seat.
The name MagriTTA - written with the characteristic use of the upper and lower parts of capital letters, combines the surnames of Matt and Magritte, thus reinforcing the tribute to a great artist to another great artist. With the re-edition of MagriTTA, Gufram continues its path towards the valorization and reclamation of international icons of radical design, thus positioning itself at the center of the rediscovery of this significant movement in the history of industrial design.
The Chilean architect, painter and designer Matta was a hero of the most important artistic movements of the 20th century: in Paris he was one of the outstanding personalities of surrealism; at the beginning of World War II influenced the birth of abstract expressionism in New York; after the war, he returned to Europe and settled in Italy, where he played the role of a link between abstract expressionism and Italian abstractionism. His works are presented in several of the most important museums in the world, including MOMA in New York, Center Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the National Gallery of Art in Rome.
