sculptural table, a powerful and unexpected object - Blitz is Mario Bellini's amazing new project for B&B Italia. The flat, slender and geometric outer frame finds its natural complement in the curved and sinuous shapes of the interior, revealing aesthetic and structural solutions reminiscent of a suspension bridge. Bamboo was chosen for the frame because of its lightness and rapid growth. It is a versatile wood with distinctive features that have been refined through fine processing of solid wood. It is unexpected and unusual for indoor use, but follows the traditional quality of B&B Italia materials and brings it back again; it is about an object that is a unique synthesis of design, engineering and high-quality carpentry. The outer parts of the table show the natural grain of bamboo, emphasizing the quality, care and precision of each wooden module. The surface pattern contrasts with the inside of the table, where we discover a soft black finish with a shellac effect. This is a solution that generates surprising visual effects of flat surfaces that appear to be floating on curved shadows. The three-meter-long and 95-centimeter-deep upper section folds at the ends like an origami to become a support that narrows and folds again to rest on the ground. Countless technological solutions guarantee extraordinary solidity despite its apparent lightness. Blitz is not a monolith, but consists of several elements that facilitate transport and access to any environment. It can be used as a dining table, a desk in a prestigious office or as a welcome table in a large and majestic space. The space defined by Blitz resembles a theater, a place hiding a wealth of history and expectations, a world of applied technologies, craftsmanship, rich sensory perception and strong emotions. We find ourselves in front of a table with a strong stage presence, while at the same time being almost impossibly abstract, yet an extremely solid, very versatile table with a powerful personality. Blitz will be produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces. Mario Bellini imagined a new classic and B&B Italia made it a reality.
