The flexible nature of Camaleonda is continued and complemented by Gli Scacchi, chess pieces and a series of accessories designed by Mario Bellini as additional tables or seats. The three pieces that make up this series are inspired by the game of chess, in particular the queen, knight and rook (hence the Italian names Regina, Cavallo, Torre), light and easy to move like on a chessboard.
In the original version from 1971, Gli Scacchi represented a remarkable technical innovation because they were manufactured from self-shielding polyurethane foam, a solution that was initially only used in the automotive industry and was first introduced in the furniture industry.
The 2020 re-edition offers soft covers made of thick leather and calfskin with visible stitching.
The shape of the three elements refers to and develops the parallelepiped, through structures made of soft polyurethane that perfectly synchronize with the dimensions of the Camaleonda.
At the base there is an elegant, metallic profile, an element defining the geometry of the shape in contrast to the softness of the object.
