Product description
The Colombo 281 is Joe Colombo's first proposal for Oluce, the only two-man project realized in collaboration with his brother Gianni.
The model, created in 1962 and initially known as the 281, was later named "Acrilica", referring to the main material, what this item is made of (acrylic) and the unusual use that has been made of it in the design of lamp 281.
In fact, methacrylate has already been used for about ten years in the lighting sector, usually in the form of thin sheets cut or thermoformed , while here it is used in an extremely specific way.
Due to its conductive properties, both the shape and the significant thickness of the curvature of the lamp 281 cause the light from the fluorescent lamp placed in the painted steel base to travel up the transparent structure of the lamp, illuminating its head.
In 1964, "Acrilica" won a gold medal at the 13th International Triennale Exhibition in Milan.
In 2022, on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Acrilica is offered in a special version with a Portoro marble base.
