Product description

Joe Colombo's first project for Oluce, the only one he worked on together with his brother Gianni. From that moment on, the two Colombo brothers clearly separated their fields: Joe abandoned art, in which he showed promise, creating "Nucleari", while Gianni no longer dealt with design, becoming one of the leading representatives of kinetic, programmed movement. The 281 model, created in 1962, immediately gained the nickname "Acrilica" due to its surprising visibility and unique innovation in the form of a significant curvature made of acrylic. Methacrylate, used for about a decade in lighting, usually in the form of thin sheets cut or thermoformed, found a very specific use here: its thickness and curvature meant that, thanks to its conductive properties, the light from the fluorescent lamp contained inside the painted steel base passed through the transparent body, finally illuminating the head in an amazing way. Thanks to this "magic movement", the "281" is more a work of kinetic art than a lamp. In 1964, "Acrilica" won a gold medal at the 13th Triennale in Milan.
