Product description
BS1 B- Floor lamp. Base: 29 cm; High: 170 cm; Rotation: 360° in 4 positions. As an admirer of Alexander Calder, in 1951 Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps. Movement is an inherent element of Schottlander's entire work: an artist, an engineer and, to a large extent, a handyman. He devised a clever system of counterweights connected to a series of strong and flexible metal rods. The shade is also unique in its kind. Like an acrobat suspended in the air, it is made of aluminum using spinning and chasing techniques that are part of the metalworker's skill, but to which he turned the sculptor's eye to create a spiral movement in which symmetrical and asymmetrical are in opposition. Its lights, with their eternal play between balance and disequilibrium, reveal some of the secrets of what we mean by "solidity" and "emptiness". And like his idol's cell phones, they seem to defy the laws of gravity. The fundamental poetry of the object is an invitation to enter a dream world of the most sensibly balanced elegance...
