The Ray of a Silver Lining marble hanging lamp highlights the lightness of marble, both physically and in the user's sensory experience.
The original idea behind this lamp was to transform marble from a stiff and heavy volume into a light and luminous element that almost floats in space . The addition of a "silver lining" detail in 2020, referencing Japanese Kintsugi and ancient mining techniques, was not only an approach to heritage, but also an optimistic sign in times of change.
Consists of a single block of marble with no cables other than links suspension. Where the marble is carved, light is introduced to highlight the unique crystalline quality and veining pattern of the marble.
But what happens when discontinuities appear, such as the natural cracks that characterize marble? Has volume become obsolete, or does the precious rock have a future?
Since ancient times, quarry workers have cast streaks of bronze into all the weak areas of marble slabs to strengthen them. Similarly, the Japanese art of Kintsugi uses powdered gold to repair cracks in pottery. Combining these two processes, "Ray with a Silver Lining" involves a silver-coated joint where the volume of the marble was previously broken, adding a layer to its veins and history. Thanks to this, the Ray serves both as a light source and a decorative element.
Thin and elegant, it resembles a ray of light.
