This is a language made of light, not an object design, but rather the development of a strong idea - using light to communicate simply and freely. BIG starts with an abacus of basic geometries to design a new font that translates into light, an alphabet used to write and express thoughts, a tool to give shape to spaces. Base modules, straight or curved, with precise geometric proportions, allow elements to be combined to build countless light structures, both basic and complex. Several base modules connected by joints form the individual letters of a new graphic alphabet, allowing the definition of simple and linear elements or more complex ones, including curved ones, to design light in space with words as well as graphic signs.This idea combines with Artemide's optoelectronic skills to define an innovative manufacturing principle and produce continuous, comfortable light. Technological complexity is transposed to elementary gestures, the different parts are connected by electromagnetic connectors that are hidden, without shadows or discontinuities. Connections are easy and provide maximum freedom of composition and configuration. Power is transferred between modules to a maximum height of almost 5 meters. The section reveals a patented optical system that works with innovative materials whose optical properties are exploited within an elementary geometric element. A thin central aluminum core supports two light-emitting LED strips on opposite sides. Calibration of the materials' transmittance and reflectance values, combined with the geometry of the inner and outer surfaces, ensures that the light is evenly distributed and diffused, without perceiving the technological heart of the element. The emitted light is comfortable and diffused, no shadows are seen and no glare occurs. At the same time, the efficiency is high, the light is repeatedly processed inside the body, but none is wasted, absorption by materials is minimized.
