FLOOR LAMPS

Floor lamps

Floor lamps are the perfect solution to illuminate any type of environment. They allow you to add a light point where you prefer, create an atmosphere that fits the context, or simply enhance the enjoyment of certain corners of the house. This type of lamp is extremely versatile and has always been the subject of designers' experiments: the design of the available models allows you to choose between classic solutions, more contemporary products and eccentric strike lamps. The subject of stylistic and formal experiments, you can choose between classic vertical floor lamps or designer floor lamps with less conventional and more sophisticated shapes, also according to individual needs. In fact, the floor lamp decorates and beautifies the room, even when it is turned off. It is this ability to combine aesthetics and functionality that makes floor lamps an element of equipment in every respect. Over the years, experimenting did not stop at the simple aesthetic side: technology has had a clear impact on the metamorphosis and evolution of floor lamps, which are today one of the most personalized pieces of equipment.

Floor lamps: icons and new trends

Floor lamps are products that are constantly reinterpreted over time, combining iconic items with innovative elements. Models with a modern design are characterized by thread-like, chrome structures and minimalist lines that perfectly fit into the contemporary context. Classic floor lamps, consisting of a base, a leg and a lampshade, usually made of fabric, find their place in corners that require simple additional lighting. This type of lamp works well not only at home, but also in hotel halls or waiting rooms. In contracted environments, height-adjustable floor lamps can be useful, with which you can adjust the height of the light source to the internal height of the rooms you want to illuminate. If you need to illuminate a specific area of the living room, perhaps equipped with sofas and armchairs, an arc lamp with a characteristic arched base that allows the light to diffuse elsewhere than the base may be the perfect solution. The latter is invisible because it is located under or to the side of the sofa, and the design of the lamp extends towards the point you want to illuminate. Finally, tripod lamps are lighting systems with a strong aesthetic impact that are difficult to overcome with fashion. Their base strongly resembles the pedestals of professional cameras or camcorders, but there is often an adjustable projector above them. But there are floor lamps made in many shapes, finishes, materials and colors. The use of floor lamps brings with it a number of advantages in the environments in which they are used: being immediately visible, they can easily give their own style to the surroundings, even if thanks to their shape they take up minimal space and give the possibility to be used even in small environments, not only in large areas; they can be moved depending on the needs, thanks to which they are a symbol of functionality and versatility, and thus, depending on the selected type of light, they can create unique moods, warm and cozy surroundings, changing the essence of the rooms in which they host them.

Lighting effects with floor lamps with direct and indirect light

This type of lighting can be found in all floor lamps with direct light, among the different models available the choice is usually floor lamps for reading: ideal for creating a relaxing corner in the living room or bedroom are often also adjustable floor lamps used to direct the light flow and make the reading is more comfortable. Among them, floor lamps with a flexible arm, thanks to the maximum possibility of adjustment, are also perfect for a desk or desk, and are also perfect as office floor lamps. Indirect light floor lamps, on the other hand, also known as projector lamps, are useful for general lighting of a given environment as needed. In fact, thanks to the illumination of large areas of the ceiling, this solution makes it possible to repair rooms with a low intensity of reflected and soft light. Light ceilings allow most of this light to be reflected, unlike dark ceilings. However, this type of lamp is not suitable for reading. The most complete solution, however, is a floor lamp with direct and indirect light, which at the same time illuminates the room by reflecting the light source from the ceiling surface and directs the adjustable element to where it is necessary, e.g. the reading room next to it.

Light sources for floor lamps

As with all other light sources, floor lamps use bulbs that can be combined into 4 main types. Each of them has a different energy consumption and duration. Only a few years ago, incandescent floor lamps were the most popular. Until now, they are rarely used due to the high energy consumption. Halogen lamps remain an alternative to the previous ones, due to the similar shape of the bulb, but with higher lighting quality and lower consumption. Halogen lamps are very cold-resistant, making them suitable for outdoor use, and guarantee a lifetime of 1,000 to 5,000 hours. Fluorescent or energy-saving floor lamps can provide an average lifetime of 6,000 to 12,000 hours and offer significantly lower energy consumption than incandescent lamps: up to 5 times lower. These, however, are not immediately illuminated. Finally, vertical LED lamps can be described as the best choice as they have very low energy consumption and a much longer life than other options: they can reach 30,000 hours of life with instant ignition and high heat and cold resistance, making them ideal for both indoor use as well as outside.

Alternative technologies for floor lamps

Technological aspects are also important for floor lamps. With some innovations and optional extras, creating the right atmosphere is easier. To find the right light intensity, floor lamps with dimmers are perfect: your living room will always have perfect light; Whether you want to hang out with friends, watch TV or just relax, just adjust the lamp and you will get the most suitable light output using the same lamp. Lighting control is controlled by a rheostat capable of managing the input power and voltage. Dimmers can be both mechanical and electronic and are also a useful energy saving tool as they can choose the power they need at any time. The basis of this functionality in the world of LED technology is the RGB floor lamp technology. LEDs are light emitting diodes. Traditional LEDs emit only one type of light, usually white. RGB lamps use three types of LEDs: red, green and blue LEDs. Hence the RGB abbreviation: red, green and blue. Bulbs using this technology are able to reproduce a wide spectrum of colors using three colored LEDs, mixing them with different intensities, thus obtaining different color intensities. For a more complete application, lamps with RGBW technology are also available, which add white LEDs, hence the letter W in white. These systems have many daily uses: in addition to giving different styles to the surroundings according to different themes or times of the day, RGB LEDs reduce eye strain. If we talk about technology, wireless floor lamps should definitely be present in the world of furniture lamps. Thanks to the integrated rechargeable battery, these lamps can be placed even in places where there is no direct access to electricity and allow these lamps to be easily moved from one environment to another, from inside to outside, combining design and smart concepts into one product. The battery can be recharged when needed, giving these lamps an autonomy of up to 6 hours of continuous use, having a wide beam suitable for lighting any type of environment. Some of these solutions also provide for the presence of solar cells, which allow the battery to self-charge using sustainable solar energy.

Styles and materials for floor lamps

A floor lamp can complement the room's equipment or become a hero, influencing everything around with its style. Regardless of the shape, style and materials chosen, the floor lamp is able to create separate corners and spaces thanks to the use of light. From classic floor lamps to modern floor lamps, they are true design icons. The material from which these products are made certainly sees metal floor lamps as great heroes, preferred for their durability and versatility: steel, aluminum or the more traditional wrought iron and brass floor lamps among them. Among the modern styles, Scandinavian-style floor lamps cannot be ignored: this style, the hero of many recent designs, seems to be one of the timeless styles that will accompany furniture for a long time. Certainly, wooden floor lamps are a symbol of this stylistic trend and are now a must-have warm and friendly environment. For enthusiasts of a more eclectic and ethnic style, a floor lamp with a rattan or bamboo shade may be a better choice. For those who prefer a classic style, Murano glass floor lamps can match the style of the environment in which they are to be furnished, thanks to the play of colors and the reflections through the glass, you can make your living room or reading corner unique . While floor lamps with Swarovski® crystals are sure to set a fairy-tale touch even in a princely-style restaurant, perhaps paired with golden leaf bases. All these possibilities of original styles and lines, combined with more or less classic materials and innovative technologies, will give the maximum character of your space.
