The unique design of the Zencha bathroom collection by Sebastian Herkner, inspired by traditional Japanese rituals and crafts, combines extraordinary countertop washbasins with minimalist furniture. The most striking feature of the washbasins and bathtubs is the rounded shape that flows into a graceful, outwardly curved edge. Double-walled sanitary facilities made of DuraCeram® and DuraSolid® combine with modular, geometric bathroom furniture with an elegant frame. Furniture made of materials such as wood and textured glass not only offers plenty of storage space, but is also extremely pleasant to the touch. “I always wanted to create a bathroom series for Duravit,” said the designer from Offenbach. Now he can take his place among renowned designers such as Philippe Starck and Cecilie Manz, who designed collections for the German manufacturer.
Striking and delicate: design
The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. It is increasingly becoming a place of retreat and ritual. Thanks to balanced shapes, colors and materials, Zencha appeals to all our senses. The inspiration for the project are handmade ceramic cups that the designer discovered in Japan. Their delicate, organic shapes were transferred in an abstract form to sanitary objects. Designed as convex rectangles, they are bulbous at the bottom and taper towards the top, creating an elegant curve. The materials used are as sensual as washbasins made of DuraCeram®. This material allows you to create countertop washbasins with an extremely thin rim, which are durable and extremely easy to care for. Bathtubs made seamlessly from DuraSolid® impress with their pleasantly warm feel and elegant matte aesthetics.
Bathtubs The simple design of the furniture creates an intriguing contrast with the organic sanitary facilities and complements the subtle material and color concept of the collection. A unique design feature is the elegant frame, which is only six millimeters thick. It creates a uniform shadow gap that gives the furniture a graceful and casual look. “Such technically advanced solutions with consistent quality can only be produced if, like Duravit, you have your own production facilities with the appropriate expertise and a high level of workmanship,” said Herkner.
