Astro is a solid wood sideboard designed by Debonademeo.
Can you tame the star? The textural nature of wood illuminates in a kaleidoscope of different species arranged in a sunburst: optical effects represented by the stone inlays present in the churches and palaces of Venice.
A hybrid piece of furniture that aims to both fill the role of a container, while also acting as a sculptural element, a guard dreams and desires. Functional and at the same time decorative, Astro - designed by the Venetian design studio DEBONADEMEO - testifies to the very high production and furniture skills of MEDULUM, used in this case to create a trunk for contemporary furniture.
The slim metal structure, designed as a plinth for a museum memory, supports a streamlined shape that highlights the natural appearance of the wood from which it is composed. The geometric rhythm of the sun-shaped wedges conceals the perimeter of the door, allowing the item to open to reveal internal storage organized with metal shelves. The shape of the door itself, splayed towards the center, gives the composition a dynamic effect, almost anamorphic depending on where you look at it from.
In this collection, the design duo Luca De Bona and Dario De Meo continue the theme of research on optical effects obtained through using marquetry, explored in a series of furniture previously developed for the Venetian brand.
