Dominic is a coffee table belonging to the family of furniture designed by Federico Angi for Bolzan and inspired by Le Corbusier's design approach crystallized in Dom-ino. The search for a multifunctional piece of furniture, perfect for the constantly changing needs of modern life, prompted the designer to create a piece of furniture with a significant structure that can function as a small table or bedside table or, in the version intended for the sleeping area, a practical chest of drawers.
A tribute to Le Corbusier is hidden in the name of the creation: Dominic is actually a reference to Dom-ino, the house of the father of modern architecture inspired by the designs of mass-produced houses, where the floors become suspended slabs on pillars. Following this approach, Dominic becomes a small-scale dialogue between solid and empty surfaces, where the column supports planes that in turn fulfill different functions.
Elegance and restraint characterize this furniture available in three versions. The design attaches great importance to durability. The material Dominic is made of is varnished HDF. It is a wood fiber made from various types of waste or recyclable wood, recovered in a sophisticated and painstaking process that begins with cleaning and debarking, and then shredding. Dominic is available in a hand-made glossy lacquer.
