Product description
The synergy of geometry and imagination gave birth to the idea for the iconic Traccia low table, which was designed by the Swiss artist Meret Oppenheim in 1939 and for obvious reasons he called it the "bird-legged table".
The slender legs and clawed feet in polished cast bronze are a tribute to the classic furniture on legs from past centuries.
In 1971, Dino Gavina created what he called "l'opera d'arte funzionale", i.e. works of applied art, thus inaugurating a new approach to interior design where surrealistic objects were adapted to everyday use. This led to the creation of the Ultramobile collection.
These works that went beyond (ultra) (mobile) furniture engaged the imagination, complementing rational intelligence with a sense of
wonder, where geometry interacted with fantasy. One such work was a low table that the Swiss artist Meret Oppenheim designed
in 1939 for the avant-garde Leo Castelli gallery, calling it the "Bird Legs Table" for quite obvious reasons. Narrow legs and clawed feet in polished cast bronze pay homage to furniture from the past. In the 1970s, Simon International produced a limited edition in a smaller size. This has now been re-released by Cassina, fully respecting the original design.
Structure: Polished or silver-plated cast bronze frame.
Tabletop: Elliptical plywood top with fine gold leaf or white gold leaf top finished and the bottom painted with yellow or white gold.
