Building on the archetype of the minimalist sofa with a bent steel tube base that was first added to the Thonet portfolio in the 1930s, designer James Irvine has developed a versatile furniture system that can be used in a variety of interiors. The S 5000 sofa line is based on a simple, intelligent construction concept using the modular principle. Inspired by the increasing fusion of work and life spaces, Studio Irvine, in line with its founder, undertook the task of intelligently refining it so that it fits into the modern New Work concept: structurally identical armrests and backrests or, if necessary, panels can be integrated into the seat frame partitions that serve as a sight and noise barrier. Thanks to this, it can be expanded in many ways, and thanks to variable side panels it can also be used in large offices. The panels create a frame for various pillows that can be loosely arranged in the selected place. The furniture offer also includes small tables screwed to a steel pipe frame. This creates entire landscapes of sofas that can be modularly expanded and modified. As a classic S 5000 sofa, it fits into modern living spaces, in a smaller version with panels it becomes an intelligent home work station, and in larger versions it can be used in central areas of offices and living rooms, in coworking rooms or in waiting rooms.
