Product description
These chairs are the first cantilever chairs in the history of furniture. They were first used in 1927 at the Weissenhof-Siedlung in Stuttgart. Beginning in 1925, Mart Stam experimented with gas pipes, which he connected using flanges, and developed the principle of cantilever chairs, which no longer rest on four legs. In this way, he created a construction principle which, with formal reservations, became an important element of the history of contemporary furniture design. At first, Stam did not yet focus on the bending effect of bent steel pipes; he was rather interested in a transparent form that fit perfectly into the modern architecture of the time.
