In the case of the S 43, he combined a tubular steel frame with molded plywood seat and backrest shells, thus achieving absolute reduction. Due to the comfortable bending effect of the frame, upholstery is not necessary. Its clear, restrained form makes this cantilever chair an exemplary design in the spirit of modernism.
