With the Ombra Tokyo chair, Charlotte Perriand has created an iconic object of superb visual appeal and exceptional sophistication, conjured from a single sheet of oak plywood, cut, folded and curved to evoke the Japanese tradition of origami. This chair was first presented in 1953, and its slim seat was an absolute novelty. Stackable, lightweight and functional, the Ombra Tokyo chair is a perfect synthesis of gesture, form and technology, expressing Perriand's design ethos to perfection. The construction techniques used by Cassina shape the material in full respect of the original design and its timeless personality.
