Product description
Shanghai is a chair with an ash structure and a seat made of French rattan. Designed by Rune Krøjgaard and Knut Bendik Humlevik, the Shanghai chair is a modern interpretation of the ancient Chinese horseshoe-shaped chair. It can be said that the design dates back over 700 years, because the inspiration for the armrest was a chair from the Yuan Dynasty, the period when Marco Polo was still in China.
The Shanghai chair is characterized by a steam-bent solid ash wood frame and a seat made of paper string, French rattan or leather. The backrest and armrest play a key role in the chair's design, giving it its iconic shape and solid support. The high back provides comfortable support, and the armrest effortlessly wraps around the body of the chair. The paper cord seat is hand woven and the leather upholstered seat option is available in Sørensen's Premium or Vintage Leather.
“This is still one of the projects I am most proud of designing. Not only with its appearance, but with the effort and work we put into the chair. From our drawings to the final chairs, damn, there were a lot of changes and modifications. - Rune Krøjgaard
FRAME: The frame is made of 100% ash. The seat is made of hand-woven paper string, French rattan or upholstered with leather.
