Product description
Designed by Gerrit Rietveld, this chair was an early example of cantilevered seating and consists of four wooden planks articulated together, creating an extremely eye-catching example of unstable construction. Avoiding the traditional sequence of legs and seat back, Rietveld created a ribbon of wood forming a Z shape. The craftsmanship of Cassina's carpenters is evident in the dovetail joints that add to the beauty of this piece. The aesthetic uniqueness of this furniture is especially visible in the colored version, and its open-pore finish highlights the wood veins on the front and sides. This finish reflects a number of variations on a theme by Rietveld, intended to emphasize the relationship between vertical, diagonal and horizontal lines.
