Distinctive in style and exceptionally comfortable, the Karuselli Lounge Chair exemplifies designer Yrjö Kukkapuro's interest in achieving ultimate comfort by combining functionality, ergonomics and organic form. Designed after the human body, Karusella's inspiration reportedly came while the designer was playing outside making snow chairs with his daughter. In search of the perfect dimensions, Kukkapuro spent several years carving the chair, until in 1964 it achieved its iconic form. The chair, which was an immediate international success, prompted Gio Ponti to choose Karuselli for the cover of Domus in 1966 and inspired Sir Terence Conran to declare it his favorite chair.

The modern, classic design is the result of extensive experimentation and a revolutionary combination of ergonomics, new materials and production methods.
Kukkapuro began working on the development of this armchair, a fiberglass chair from the 1950s, and it obtained its famous shape in 1964 The shape of the Karuselli chair is the result of extensive experiments - Kukkapuro spent four years sculpting it and searching for the right dimensions, initially guided by his own body. Karuselli is exceptionally comfortable and stands out stylistically precisely because it is ergonomically based on the shape and proportions of the human body. As a result of continuous efforts, Kukkapuro finally achieved a form that is an innovative combination of ergonomics, new materials and production methods, as well as artistic design.
