1952, working with Franca Helg, his long-time assistant Franco Albini designed Tre Pezzi, a contemporary version of the classic Bergère chair. The chair consists of a deeply curved seat, a ring-shaped backrest and a crescent-shaped headrest, with each of these geometric shapes standing out independently. Wide and cozy, upholstered sections combine clean lines with total comfort. The tubular metal frame is mounted on scaffolding poles, and the lateral curve of the armrests is reminiscent of the handrails on the Milan metro, which were also the work of Albini and Helga. The result is a modern armchair with a strong visual impact, to which Cassina has returned with the utmost respect for the original.
This is reflected in the design of the deep seat, the U-shaped lumbar cushion and the crescent-shaped headrest of the parts with different names and shapes in an integral principle of beauty and functionality. The lateral curvature of the tubular steel structure creates a graphic signature reminiscent of the handrails designed for the Milan metro. Cassina introduces a historic edition in red wool and a black frame.
