The YAKISUGI project was inspired by the title, traditional Japanese technology of charring wood to protect its surface. The deliberately simple lines of this occasional table contrast elegantly with the combination of oak and walnut from which it is made. Through the play of light and shadow, both inside and out, streaks of color on the legs float in contrasting positions, ultimately blending into the finial of the tabletop, emphasizing the silhouette of the design. A feat of artisan craftsmanship celebrating the beauty of the material.
