Ottoman is an armchair with injected, flame-retardant polyurethane foam on an internal steel frame. The seat and back cushions are filled with polyester fiber and flame-retardant polyurethane foam and memory foam chips. The legs are steel, powder-coated. Covers from the Ottoman collection cannot be removed. New material for a new way of sitting. This new way of seating the Ottoman collection will probably look more like a lie. The seat height is lower than usual, and the open design of the furniture allows for greater freedom of movement. Spatial dimensions, layered patterns and the use of colors are the main considerations in fabric design. Scholten & Baijings' first sketches and models consist of soft, rectangular loungers that have multiple uses: sitting, leaning, lounging or lying down, alone or with each other. An important source of inspiration was the use of futons, customarily used in typically Japanese rooms.
In the second phase of sketching, the idea of using the old Ottoman Empire as a creative starting point emerged. A footstool is also called an ottoman. Ottoman history provides many wonderful examples of decorative textiles for interiors combined with low seating elements intended to encourage social interaction between people. Images evoked include drinking tea, using a hookah, or enjoying a meal together. Additionally, there are many examples of fabric designs with vibrant colors and bold graphic patterns used in wide open, spacious interiors.
Furniture design is different from fabric design. Ottoman's design is characterized by rounded, softer and more organic forms. This contrasts with the angular color compositions of the fabric and creates a wonderful symbiosis. However, both designs also work very effectively on their own.
