Sciangai - the iconic foldable clothes rack design by De Pas, D'Urbino and Lomazzi from 1973, winner of the Compasso d'Oro award in 1979 - celebrates its 50th anniversary. Zanotta celebrates this landmark anniversary with Paolo Lomazzi by creating a special edition with unlimited numbers: presenting the Sciangai 50, an explosion of bright and joyful colors.
The Sciangai 50 is a faithful replica of the original sketch found in De Pas, D'Studio Urbino and Lomazzi ” by Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla, the new artistic directors of Zanotta, a brightly colored pencil drawing in which each rod has a different shade. An empathetic and communicative object that adapts its surroundings with a bit of fun, authentic anti-conformity when its eight colorful branches open.
Foldable clothes rack with a very simple but user-friendly operating mechanism that attracts is inspired by the stick game Mikado.
In Sciangai, each piece provides a point of contact with the ground, while also providing a place to hang a coat or hat on top, the ends specially shaped to hold each item of clothing or headgear. The eight solid beech wood bars are joined together by a joint just above the center, and when open, they form an adjustable perimeter to fit the surrounding available space, creating a clothes rack of various dimensions.
