Eileen Gray was fascinated by the beauty of traditional lacquered products. She learned the centuries-old craft from a Japanese craftsman and then perfected her skills for many years. Brick Screen is one of her most famous works. She experimented with different panel sizes and finishes. More than just a room divider, this folding screen with its understated elegance brings to mind a sculpture. The fixed and movable panels are painted by hand, layer by layer, in a process that takes several weeks. Each layer is first allowed to dry completely, then hand-sanded and finally polished to a flawless shine. Coveted by collectors, this famous work is part of the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Each screen is signed and serial numbered as proof of authenticity and provenance.
A refined masterpiece of craftsmanship. This is the first version of Brick Screen authorized by the license holder, Aram Designs Ltd., London. Made to order in a limited edition of 75 pieces. Each copy has a sequential number and is signed by Eileen Gray. The 28 fixed and movable wooden panels are hand-varnished layer by layer: each layer is allowed to dry completely, then hand-sanded and finally polished to a flawless shine. Stabilizing internal frame made of stainless steel, solid brass end caps.
